CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University women's swimming swept Bethel University and St. Catharine to open its 2014-15 season Saturday in Powell Athletic Center. The Tiger men's team fell short in a dual against Bethel, 87-58, in their season opener.
The Lady Tigers beat Bethel, 119-67, and St. Catharine, 145-36, in the double dual. Bethel beat St. Catharine, 93-56.

"I am very pleased with the attitudes and interactions of my athletes today. Unity was our focus entering the meet and the whole team did very well," CU swim coach Casey Smith said. "There were a lot of good races, and I am very pleased with our results. It was a good start to our season, and I'm looking forward to how the rest of this season will turn out."
CU won each of its 50-meter races with Shelby Mattingly winning the 50 free in 29.09 to become the first CU swimmer to qualify for the 2015 NAIA Championships, collecting a B cut time. Bailey Foxworth won the backstroke in 34.66, and Marien Rincon made her college debut to win the breaststroke in 47.31.
The Lady Tigers' trio also won their respective 100-meter races with Mattingly posting a time of 1:06.52 in the 100 free, Foxworth swam 1:16.42 in the backstroke and Rincon's time was 1:26.36 in the breaststroke.
Rebekah Tilton won the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 5:48.03.
For the men, Filippo Albertino and Austin Tucker were the only Tigers to claim first place in an event. Albertino won the 50-meter backstroke (32.46) and Tucker won the 50 butterfly (33.68)
Campbellsville will return to the pool next weekend, Sept. 26-27, in the Fall Frenzy at Lindsey Wilson College.
