Tigers knock off No. 11 Lindsey Wilson, 3-0

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — In front of a packed Finley Stadium, the Tigers upset and shutout No. 11 Lindsey Wilson for the first time in history tonight, 3-0. 

Campbellsville (12-3, 5-0) stays undefeated at home this season at 6-0 as well as perfect in the Mid-South Conference at 5-0. In the past 26 meetings, the Tigers have never defeated the Blue Raiders, until tonight.

Right out of the gate Campbellsville set the tone of the match with reigning MSC Player of the Year Marcelo Petit scoring within the second minute. The score for Petit was the 14th of the season.  

The Tigers went into halftime with four shots compared to Lindsey Wilson's two. Both teams had one save recorded but Campbellsville had the 1-0 lead.

Guilherme Fanck recorded back-to-back goals within a two-minute span, starting in the 53rd minute. Fanck has been eligible for the last three games, including today, and has scored a total of six goals.

The Tigers ended the match with one more shot than the Blue Raiders at 14. Both teams recorded eight shots on goal.

Gonzalo Sapena recorded five saves in the shutout, with the team adding three saves by deflections. Lindsey Wilson's goalkeeper Yuta Nomura recorded five saves in the loss.

Campbellsville is one of two teams left undefeated in MSC play. The Tigers are a perfect 5-0 along with No. 8 Cumberland (Tenn.) who is also 5-0 in conference and undefeated overall at 13-0. No. 11 Lindsey Wilson sits at third in the MSC standings at 5-2.

The Tigers will host Tennessee Wesleyan for senior day on Saturday, Oct. 24. Action starts at 2 p.m. ET at Finley Stadium.
