Tigers win ninth straight to cap senior day

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — A senior day win over Tennessee Wesleyan gave the Tigers their ninth straight victory, 4-1, the largest win streak since 2008. 

Campbellsville (13-2, 5-0 MSC) won its ninth straight match and stays undefeated at Finley Stadium and Citizens Bank Field this season. The Tigers honored nine seniors, including: Alex Ryan, Ryan Foster, Chris Moyo, Maurizio Infante, Tanner Reed, Cesar Pena, Lewis Fyfe, Marcelo Petit and Gabriel DeFreitas.

"This group of guys has really helped paint a vision for the future of this team," said assistant coach Alex Adams. "Our younger players have had confidence coming into our program as a direct result of the leadership and work ethic of these seniors on the team.

"The best thing about this group is how they are willing to sacrifice for the good of the team. They truly represent the type of men we are excited to send out into the world. Every guy will always hold a special place in our family here at Campbellsville."

For the third straight match, senior Marcelo Petit set the tone early by recording the first goal in the 16th minute, his 15th goal of the season and 37th of his career. Senior teammate, Ryan Foster assisted on the goal, good for his 14th career assist.

Petit ranks No. 3 in the NAIA in total winning goals (5) and No. 7 in game-winning goals per match. (0.360).

Foster turned right around and scored the second goal off an assist from Shane Buchanan. Foster recorded his 16th career goal while Buchanan recorded his fourth assist of the season and sixth of his career.

Campbellsville doubled Tennessee Wesleyan's shots in the first half, recording 10.

In the 76th minute two more Tigers netted the ball for a 4-0 lead over the Bulldogs. At the 76:24 mark Alex Ryan scored off a pass from Petit and 25 seconds later Guilherme Fanck recorded a goal. The goal for Ryan was the 18th of his career.

Fanck has been eligible for the last four matches, and has recorded at least one goal in each, for a total of seven goals this season.

Laurence Hutchinson scored Tennessee Wesleyan's lone goal in the 86th minute.

The Bulldogs fired 14 shots, seven on goal with Gonzalo Sapena recording six saves.

TWC's goalkeeper, Daniel O'Hare, recorded eight saves out of the 12 shots on goal the Tigers' shot.

Campbellsville ranks No. 2 in the NAIA in shots on goal per match (12.360), No. 3 in shots per match (23.5) and goals per match (4.430).

The Tigers travel to No. 8 Cumberland (Tenn.) on Wednesday, Oct. 28. Action is set for 2 p.m. ET.
