Tigers knock off No. 6 Cumberland, 3-0

LEBANON, TENN. — Campbellsville University men's soccer won at least a share of the Mid-South Conference regular season today by defeating Cumberland University, 3-0.

"We are very excited about our win today," said coach Adam Preston. "The guys worked hard and our defense played a terrific game. This was a good win for the team and now our focus is on our match with UPIKE on Monday."

The Tigers host Univeristy of Pikeville on Monday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. ET and if CU wins they will capture the out-right regular season title for the first time in program history. If the Bears upset Campbellsville, the Tigers and Bulldogs will share the title.

Campbellsville (14-2, 6-0 MSC) is on a 10-game win streak after today's victory over the sixth-ranked Bulldogs (15-1, 6-1 MSC).

Guilherme Fanck used a header to score the first goal in the 36th minute off a pass from Marcelo Petit. The goal for Fanck was his eighth of the season in just five games.

Campbellsville dashed the hopes of Cumberland making a comeback in the final minutes scoring two goals within two minutes of each other in the 87th and 89th minutes.

Ryan Foster recorded his third goal of the season in the 87th and two minutes later Petit dribbled down the left side past several Bulldog defenders to net another his 16th of the season and 38th of his career.

Cumberland has only allowed 13 goals on the season but three of those came in the Tigers' 3-0 shutout.

Gonzalo Sapena finished the match with four saves pushing his season total to 65 this season - good for second in the MSC.

The Mid-South Conference tournament is being hosted on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 5-6 at Lovers Lane Park in Bowling Green, Ky. All of the men's quarterfinal and semifinal games (no matter seeding) are scheduled for 12:00 and 2:30 p.m. CT.
