Sweep of Life pushes volleyball above .500 in MSC

MARIETTA, Ga. — It took nine sets, but Campbellsville scored the final two points in the fifth set of the second match at Life University today and swept the Eagles, 3-1 and 3-2.

The wins move CU above the .500 mark in conference play, presently in fourth place at 16-12, 8-7 MSC. Life falls to 16-11, 5-9 MSC.

In the first match, the Lady Tigers rallied from one set down to win the next three for a 3-1 win, 25-27, 25-17, 25-18, 26-24.

Chanel Raymundo was big with a double-double of 14 kills and 24 digs while teammate Jana Kortas also filled up the stat sheet with 16 kills and 12 digs. CU got nine kills apiece from Mirela Vasconselos and Annija Abolina to support a 59-kill attack, 20 more than Life.

The Lady Tigers also got 22, 14 and 13 digs from Jessie Pendleton, Inoa Fileds and Marcella Compeau, respectively. Fields' 44 assists gave her a double-double as well. Pendleton and Abolina were credited with three aces each.

Campbellsville won the first two sets of the second match and then had to hold off a hard-charging Life 3-2 (25-16, 28-26, 18-25, 18-25, 15-13).

Campbellsville led in kills 57-44, but hit a paltry .037 percent and committed 49 errors in the five-set win.

Brooklyn Bowling led CU with 15 kills and got support from Vasconselos, Raymundo and Kortas with 12, 12 and 10 kills, respectively.

Raymundo picked up her second double-double of the day with her 29 digs. Fields had a double-double as well with 52 assists and 13 digs. Pendelton led everyone with her 33 digs. Bowling and Compeau had 13 digs each.

Raymundo led the Lady Tigers with two service aces.

Campbellsville gets back on the court, but stays on the road, when it travels to Bethel (Tenn.) on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. ET.
