LEXINGTON, Ky. — With a two-goal surge from Marco Galeano in the second half the Campbellsville Tigers recorded their fourth shutout of the season, this time 4-0 over the Asbury Eagles.
Campbellsville (8-2, 3-0 MSC) extended its win streak to four games on Saturday with the help of Galeano, who missed three matches after a death in the family.
"It is always good to get a road win," said assistant coach Alex Adams. "Our depth really showed today as all of our goals came from guys off the bench. I'm especially happy for Marco Galeano today on his first game back. He scored two big goals for us, and the support from our guys was great to see."
The first half was dominated with the Tigers' offensive play, tripling the Eagles four shots in the first half with 12.
Alex Higdon, a junior from Elizabethtown, Ky., recorded the first goal of the game in the 63rd minute. He scored off a hard low shot that an Asbury defender deflected that went right into the back of the net.
Galeano scored his back-to-back goals in the 75th and 77th minutes. Guilherme Cheng assisted in the goal that crossed from the left. Daniel Nimmo and Chris Moyo assisted on Galeano's second goal that came through the right wing.
Rickard Hallin recorded the fourth and final goal and the defense sealed the fourth shut out of the season. Hallin dribbled and settled inside the 18 to shoot for the left, lower corner.
The Tigers ended the game with 32 shots, 13 on goal. Asbury recorded seven shots and Gonzalo Sapena stopped Asbury's only shot on goal.
Campbellsville which is receiving votes in the NAIA, will take a week off and travel to No. 19 Lindenwood University-Belleville Saturday, Oct. 10. Action is set for 3 p.m. ET.
