Bass fishing wins first-ever tournament at Barren River

GLASGOW, Ky. — Nick Ratliff and Ben Riggs netted 17.73 pounds of fish Sunday and led the Campbellsville bass fishing team to their first collegiate win at Barren River Lake.

The Tigers had four two-man boats on the water at the Battle of the Bluegrass, hosted by the University of Kentucky, against a like number of boats from both the Kentucky and Lindsey Wilson College. CU grabbed the team title with a grand total of 31.74 pounds.

By so doing, Campbellsville gets to pick the time and venue for the 2016 Battle of the Bluegrass.

"I think we became a team yesterday," said coach Tommy Hall. "We've been stressing how we all need to work together. If you find something good, then you need to share it with your teammates.

"It wasn't just a one-boat thing. The guys sat down and shared the lures they were having success with and we devised a strategy from there. It was a wonderful job of teamwork."

Ratliff, Vine Grove, Ky., and Riggs, Hodgenville, Ky., beat CU's second-place team of Grant Adams (Campbellsville, Ky.) and Adam Carman (Berea, Ky.) by a little over 3 pounds. Adams and Carman weighed in at 14.01 pounds.

Rounding out the weight total were Dakota Cantrell (Greenville, Ky.) and Mason Sapp (Campbellsville, Ky.) with 11.65 pounds and Cameran Brooks (Greenville, Ky.) and Austin Moore (Bowling Green, Ky.) with 11.52 pounds.

The tournament closes out the fall schedule for Campbellsville.
