Grider's heroics save Lady Tigers at Georgetown, 70-66

GEORGETOWN, Ky. — In a game of nip and tuck CU's LeeAnn Grider tipped the scales, scoring five of her team's last seven points to help defeat Georgetown, 70-66.

Grider, who has been battling turf toe, led the Lady Tigers with 21 points on 7-for-8 shooting from the field and 7-for-10 from the free throw line.

"For us it was a bounce-back game that was tough because of the loss on Thursday," said coach Ginger Colvin. "Georgetown was very physical, rebounding and shooting the ball well. We couldn't get much flow going but found a way to win it in the end.

"LeeAnn has played a lot of minutes in two tough games. I felt like she did a great job tonight."

CU trailed 21-14 after the first quarter, but outscored Georgetown 25-16 in the second frame to take a 39-37 lead at the intermission. Campbellsville was able to maintain that lead after three.

The Lady Tigers led 57-50 after Kristen Jacob had her shot blocked by Teonia McCune, but rebounded her miss and passed it to Lexxus Graham for a 3 at the 8:59 mark of the quarter.

Grider and Lindsey Burd went to work after Emily Ziese put Georgetown up by one, 64-63, with two minutes to go. Grider made two free throws and a field goal and then Burd hit two free tosses at the six-second mark to seal the win.

Georgetown pounded CU 35-22 on the boards with Ziese doing the majority of the damage with 14. But Campbellsville forced 19 turnovers and hit 79 percent of its free throws.

Burd (16) and Graham (11) joined Grider in double figures. Burd and Jacob had five rebounds apiece to lead CU.

Jessica Foster led Georgetown with 20 points. Haley Armstrong had 15 and Zeise 10.

The Lady Tigers travel to Lyon College on Saturday, Nov. 28 for a 2 p.m. matchup.
