COLUMBIA, Ky. — Campbellsville women's basketball used a 16-0 run to begin the second half to sink Lindsey Wilson College in the Battle of Highway 55 rivalry, 94-71.
Campbellsville (6-3, 2-1 MSC) used the transition from offense to defense to set the tone. The Lady Tigers forced a season-high 23 turnovers for Lindsey Wilson (6-2, 1-1 MSC), while CU ended up scoring 21 points off those mishaps.
Campbellsville lit a flame to the nets, hitting 53 percent (37-of-70) from the floor and 43 percent (12-of-28) from behind the 3-point line. Emily Fox and Lexxus Graham paced CU with four 3s apiece while Alexis Pester knocked down 3-of-5 from deep for nine points.
Fox led CU with 24 points, while Lindsey Burd scored 18 of her 20 points in the second half. She also led all players with with seven rebounds. Graham (15) and Madison Stewart (11) also finished in double-figures for CU.
LeeAnn Grider wrote her name in the record books late in the second half. She dished out a career-high 16 assists in the win – tying the single-game mark set by head coach Ginger High Colvin in 1990.
The game started off hot for Campbellsville, as Graham drained two of her four 3s within the first 90 seconds of action.
If defense was a problem for LWC, then shooting percentages were a nail in the coffin. Lindsey Wilson hit 48 percent from the floor overall but only 31 percent from 3-point land (5-of-16). The Blue Raiders also only had nine assists on their 25 makes. Campbellsville on the other hand finished with 27 assists - the most since 2012 against Wilberforce.Â
Lindsey Wilson's Kayla Richardson and Teanna Curry kept the Blue Raiders in the game, combining for 27 of Lindsey Wilson's 36 first half points.
In the second half, Campbellsville came out at a powerful pace that Lindsey Wilson was unable to keep up with. Lindsey Burd hit a little floater before the Lady Tigers full-court 1-2-2-Â press forced a Lindsey Wilson miss. Fox drove in for another pair and then continued her three-point clinic by hitting from deep beyond the arc in the next possession, putting CU up 54-36.
The run didn't stop there. CU's press caused all kinds of problems for Lindsey Wilson, and for every turnover there was another Lady Tiger waiting to convert. Campbellsville scored 16 unanswered points in the first 4:30 of the second half, and LWC could never recover.
Curry led Lindsey Wilson in the second half as well, trying to spark a run. She finished with a career-high 30 points on 9-of-17 shooting and 10-of-12 from the charity stripe.
