Box Score OWENSBORO, Ky. — After letting a projected wintery mix keep Campbellsville Baseball from kicking off its home schedule this weekend, coach Beauford Sanders decided to pick up a mid-week game at Brescia University. CU defeated the Bearcats, 5-1, in the first of three games scheduled between the two this season.

Chris Tuma highlighted a pitching staff that sent five pitchers to the mound. All five saw action in the opening weekend at No. 23 Tennessee Wesleyan. Tuma (1-0) went five strong innings, allowing one hit and struck out two. He did not allow a walk.

Nick Morehead and Jake Pannunzio both entered in relief and shut down the Bearcats in order in the sixth and seventh innings. Then Indalecia Romo was summoned in the eighth inning, giving up one hit before striking out the side.

Mario Morales gave up the lone Bearcat run in the ninth inning, but also struck out a batter for 10 total of strikeouts for the CU pitching staff.

Campbellsville's offense continued its hot start to the season after being shutout in the opener last Saturday. The Tigers struck for a run in the first inning before picking up a single run in the third and two runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-0 advantage.

CU scored another run in the ninth to give the pitching staff more of a cushion.

Chris Allen was the lone Tiger with multiple hits, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI. He was also walked once in his four plate appearances.

Miguel Solano-Espinoza, Garrett Everhart, Jeremy Rosenthal, Shane Woodson, and Richard Ramirez all collected one hit apiece for the 10 total base knocks for CU.

Rosenthal was 1-for-1 but was also walked twice in his three plate appearances. Woodson, who was called on to courtesy run for the catcher Rosenthal, scored three of the Tigers' five runs.

Jarrod Ball also saw his first collegiate action. The freshman from Worthville, Ky. was called on to pinch run for the catcher late in the game but was stranded on the base paths.

Campbellsville is scheduled to be back in action on Friday, Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. ET with a doubleheader that jumpstarts a home four-game series against Huntington University. The Tigers will also play Saturday, Feb. 21 starting with another double header at Noon ET.
