WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — It was the Lindsey Burd Show Saturday afternoon in the O. Wayne Rollins Center. The junior forward recorded career-highs with 22 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead No. 3 Campbellsville over University of the Cumberlands, 61-56.

BOX SCORE

"It was a little bit more exciting than I would have liked," said Lady Tiger assistant Miranda Denney. "But it turned out okay, and it's good to get back on the winning ways."

Trailing 30-24, CU came storming out of the gates in the second half. Campbellsville went on a 13-2 run to reclaim the lead 37-32. But the Patriots came right back, as Essence Grey got the Patriots going with two made free throws to spark an 8-4 run with 10:44 left. Grey finished with 13 points behind Heather Jolley's 15 points to lead UC.

Lydia Box pushed the Patriots back ahead, 43-41, with her first 3 of the game. Campbellsville shut down the second leading scorer for UC, as she finished with 11 points – five of those coming in the final 30 seconds.

Daizah Kimberland hit a layup and knotted the game at 43 with 8:56 remaining but then Burd took over. Head Coach Gigner Colvin started calling plays for Burd and the junior forward did not disappoint, scoring 16 of her 22 points after intermission.

Burd was able to give Campbellsville a lead, 49-48, on an and-one play. After a free throw by Box, CU ran the same play it had been running for Burd but this time Chelsea Craig was on the receiving end of a LeeAnn Grider pass to push CU ahead, 51-49 – a lead it never surrendered. Grider finished with eight assists on the afternoon.

Burd gave CU a 53-51 lead and Grider added a free throw, 54-51. Burd and Craig both went on to hit baskets but Cumberlands' Box knocked down a 3 to make it interesting in the final 10 seconds.

"She (Burd) was unbelievable today," said Denney. "I had no idea she had those type of numbers. After the loss against Pikeville, Burd rallied the team together and told the girls they needed to start having fun and playing with passion like they had earlier in the season. That passion showed in her play today."

Emily Fox kept Campbellsville close in the first half, hitting three 3-pointers and leading the Lady Tigers with nine points in the first 20 minutes. She opened the second half with her fourth 3-pointer to pull the Lady Tigers within a point, 30-29, before Burd pushed CU ahead 33-32 with 16:28 left.

Fox, who received her first start at CU, finished playing a team-high 34-plus minutes and hit 4-of-8 from beyond the arc to sit behind Burd with 14 points.

"I can't say enough about Emily and how she has carried herself throughout the second half of the season." said Denney. "To be able to come in at Christmas break and have that demeanor and the confidence; she has picked up has carried us through games. She never gets rattled or frustrated and she can shoot the ball pretty dang well."

Campbellsville will wait six days before returning to the court, as the Lady Tigers will travel to St. Catharine College next Saturday, Feb. 21. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast live on the Campbellsville University Sports Network, 88.7 The Tiger – CLICK HERE.
