CU started the day receiving votes in the NAIA polls but the Tigers crept up to No. 24 before the final out was recorded. Auburn Montgomery moved up to No. 15 in the polls, which were released Tuesday at 5 p.m. CT.

Campbellsville (8-2) saw another dominating performance from its pitching staff. After allowing one run in the first and six innings, the Tiger pitchers shut out the Warhawks and combined for a total of 16 strikeouts and two walks.

Starting pitcher Nick Morehead (2-0) went six strong innings, giving up six hits and only two earned runs. He also struck out a season-high 10 batters, while only walking one.

"Nick Morehead did an outstanding job for us today," said CU pitching coach Brad Neffendorf. "We asked him for six or seven innings, and he did that by executing and commanding all four of his pitches."

Jake Pannunzio, Casey Congleton and Logan Truex all combined for three innings of relief work out of the bullpen. The trio allowed just two hits and three base runners all together, while striking out six.

Congleton took over in the eighth inning after a one-out single and walk by Pannunzio to put runners on first and second with the middle of the Warkhawk order up. But the junior from Las Vegas, Nevada did not falter and pitched out of the jam with a strikeout and line drive to Casey Scott at third base.

Truex finished the ninth inning, striking out the side for his second save of the season.

"Jake Pannunzio did a great job bouncing back after a rough start yesterday in game one of the series," said Neffendorf. "But Casey Congleton may have been the difference maker coming into that situation in the eighth inning and working out of the jam. Then we had Truex finish the ninth out with three straight strikeouts to end the game. That is exactly what we expect from our closer each and every game. I am extremely happy with the 16 strikeouts, but only allowing two walks is what stands out the most."

The Tigers' offense stepped up but also used a little good fortune to start the second inning. Carlos Torres reached to lead off the inning on an error, and Garrett Everhart took AUM starter Jacob Gibson deep into the count before crushing a two-run home run to left field.

The third inning was all Campbellsville. After one-out singles by Casey Scott and Miguel Solano-Espinoza, the duo moved up a base via a wild pitch by Gibson, and Torres did the damage from there. The senior from Caracas, Venezuela delivered a missile to right-center field scoring Scott and Solano.

After allowing a run in the sixth inning, Campbellsville added another in the eighth.

Torres led off the inning with his second hit and advanced to second on a fielder's choice hit by Everhart. Freshman Jarrod Ball, who came in to run for Torres, scored on Ricky McColloch's RBI single to right field.

Solano also picked up two hits in the win along with Torres for the team lead.

The Tigers are scheduled to play at Talledega College , Wednesday, March 11 at 2 p.m. before returning to Campbellsville. The Tronadoe's are receiving votes in the Top 25 after the first regular season poll was released today.

After today's win, the Tigers have won four games against opponents who are ranked ahead of them in the polls.
