Tigers rake out 24 hits in series finale win over LWC

Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. — To say the bats came alive Monday for Campbellsville University baseball would be an understatement. The 24th-ranked Tigers strung together 24 hits and plated 13 runs to complete its first Mid-South Conference series, beating Lindsey Wilson College, 13-2, at Egnew Park.

BOX SCORE

Every Tiger that came to the plate recorded at least one hit with Carlos Torres and Miguel Solano-Espinoza both putting together four-hit days. The duo also drove in eight total runs from the two and three holes in the batting order.

Casey Scott and Jaime Valle both finished with three hits and Garrett Everhart, Alex Kline and Richard Ramirez all had two knocks. Jeremy Rosenthal, Ricky McColloch, Shane Woodson and Ryan Squires each picked up a hit for the total of 24.

Nick Morehead went eight strong innings and only allowed two runs and struck out a season-high 11 batters. Those 11 eclipsed his previous season-high of 10, which was set exactly one week ago on Monday, March 9 at Auburn-Montgomery.

Logan Truex finished the rout with a perfect ninth inning on the hill.

It didn't take long for Campbellsville (10-4, 1-2 MSC) to wake up after only recording seven hits and one run in Sunday's doubleheader. The Tigers scored five runs in the second inning and three in the third for a total of eight unanswered runs. Lindsey Wilson scored two runs on one play with a two-run home run by Daryl Blaskovich.

The defense didn't help the Blue Raiders, either. Lindsey Wilson (13-8, 2-1 MSC) fell victim to four errors on the defensive side after only allowing two in the previous two games.

The Tigers strung together seven-straight hits for their five runs in the second frame. After a one-out double by Everhart, Valle delivered a single and Scott had an RBI single to drive in the first CU run. Solano then reached on his first hit before Torres delivered the big shot, a three-run home run over the left field fence.

Rosenthal and Kline were the last of the seven-consecutive base knocks, delivering two-out singles, but were both stranded.

The Tigers scored another run off an RBI double by Scott and chased LWC starting pitcher Chris Ercker out of the game after 2 1/3 innings. Matt Lashlee took over on the mound, but allowed RBI singles to Solano and Torres to complete the book on Ercker, who allowed eight earned runs on 12 hits.

Campbellsville played add-on in the seventh innin,g and went to small ball to do so. Scott singled and Solano moved him up to second base with a sacrifice bunt. Torres then, once again, delivered an RBI hit, this time missing his second long ball by just a few feet and settled for a double.

Torres scored off an LWC error, and the Tigers plated two more runs in the eighth inning and one in the ninth to take the 13-2 win.

Campbellsville is scheduled to return home to host Georgetown College for its first home conference series of the season at HIG Field on Friday and Saturday, March 20-21.
