On a blustery, sometimes snowy day, CU survived a game one scare by scoring five times in the top of the seventh to rally from a 2-1 deficit.
CU (16-5, 7-1 MSC) had but five hits in the game, but collected four of them in the decisive seventh frame.
Erin Benton got things going with a leadoff walk, but Zatoria Leavell, running for Benton, was called out after overrunning second on Markie Smith's sacrifice attempt. Smith was safe at first and advanced to third on Rebecca Miller's ensuing single. Kendyl Ahrens bunted and reached first on a fielder's choice, scoring Smith.
Kennedy Shutter, running for Ahrens, stole second and advanced to third on Shelby Ray's ground out, scoring Miller. Shutter scored on an error, and then a single by Kristin Benton plated the final two runs.
CU took a 1-0 lead in the third on a hit and an error. Ahrens reached on an error at first, and was advanced to second by Shelby Ray's sacrifice bunt. Jacqueline Roof's single scored what was then the go-ahead run.
But Shawnee got to Lady Tiger pitcher Victoria Decker (9-2) for two runs in the bottom of the fourth when the Bears used two of the four hits Decker gave up in the game. Decker's seven innings produced six strikeouts and one walk.
Shawnee's Allie Chapman gave up five hits, walked two and struck out four, but was the victim of three errors.
Roof and K. Benton had two hits apiece while Ahrens and Ray had the other two.
In game two, Campbellsville took control early, with three runs in both the first and second innings and nine in the top of the fifth. CU had 12 hits with Kristin Benton leading the way with three (4 RBIs). Shawnee State had five errors in the game leading to four unearned runs. Rebecca Miller and Shelby Ray had two-hit games and five other players had one apiece.
Four players had multiple-RBI games with Markie Smith, Erin Benton, Rebecca Miller and Ashley Neal all being credited with plating two runs apiece.
Neely Quint (7-3) gave up three hits in her five innings of work, walking one and striking out five.
