DANVILLE, Ky. – (RESULTS) Men's and women's outdoor track and field held its own at the Centre College Twilight event late Friday night. The Tigers placed seventh out of 16 teams and the women placed 12 out of 14 teams.
The Tigers had top eight finishes in almost every event this weekend. Senior Demytreus Gibson had another impressive meet, finishing second in the men's 100-meter dash with a time of 11.04 seconds. Sophomore Silaf Harris finished third in the same event with a time of 11.17 seconds. Senior P.J. Randles and junior Clayton Embry went three and four in the men's 110-meter hurdles with times of 15.07 and 15.32, respectively.
Freshman Christian Thurman placed third in the men's triple jump with a distance of 12.46 meters, while sophomore Lucas Pennington placed seventh in the event with a distance of 10.13 meters. Gibson also placed fifth in the men's javelin with a distance of 39.49 meters.
Freshman Adam Sandidge finished sixth in the men's 5000-meter run with a time of 15:38.19. Senior Brett Pierce finished right behind his teammate with a time of 15:50.45.
Leading the Lady Tigers was junior Maggie Calvert of Scottsville, Ky., who qualified for the NCCAA National Championships this May in the women's 5000-meter run. Calvert placed seventh overall with a time of 18:54.47.
Several other Lady Tigers had impressive events on Friday. Two-sport athlete Brianna Harman finished third in women's javelin with a distance of 35.56 meters. Junior Kelsey Feltner finished fifth in the women's 100-meter dash with a time of 12.87 seconds. Freshman Cathryn Fischer was the only other Lady Tiger to score points, finishing eighth in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.17.
Both the men's and women's track and field teams will be back in action on Friday and Saturday, April 24-25 in Columbia, Ky., for the Mid-South Conference Championships at Lindsey Wilson College.
