Lady Tigers fall in four sets to Cumberlands

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Cumberlands used 15 points off blocks to Campbellsville's one and handed the Lady Tigers a four-set defeat tonight in the Powell Athletic Center, 12-25, 25-20, 14-25, 25-17.

Campbellsville (4-5, 2-2 MSC) could not overcome 32 attack errors, in addition to 13 on serve. In the pivotal third set, the Lady Tigers crawled within two points three times and each time a service error reduced their opportunities to close the gap.

In the first set, Cumberlands started on a 12-0 run after the Lady Tigers tied the score 3-3. The Patriots used a combination of an energized defense and a 7-0 run to win the first set.

The second set was full of rallies as the score was tied eight different times. The Lady Tigers took advantage of a Patriot error and a kill from Annija Abolina to go on a 6-0 run to win the second set.

The Lady Tigers rallied back and forth in the third set until the Patriots took a 12-9 lead and the Lady Tigers never regained momentum. UC used a 13-6 run to finish the third set.

CU tried to rally in the fourth set, but could never gain the lead. CU hit .060 percent on attack compared to Cumberlands' .300. The teams were close in kills, 41-39 UC's favor, but the difference was on the defensive side of the net.

Annija Abolina recorded a team-high 12 kills while Jana Kortas and Mirela Vasconselos added seven a piece.

Inoa Fields dished out 34 assists. Chanel Raymundo, Vasconselos and Jesse Pendleton had two service aces apiece.

Raymundo and Kortas had 12 and 11 digs, respectively.

Morgan Schlatter and Megan Ganser lead the Patriots, recording 11 kills a piece.

The Lady Tigers hit the road for 10 straight matches, not returning to Powell Athletic Center until Thursday, Oct. 1 to play another MSC foe, (RV) St. Catharine College.
