CLEVELAND, Tenn. – (BOX SCORE) Lady Tiger volleyball improved their record to 6-4 on the season and 2-0 in the Lee University Invitational after defeating Bryan College in four sets. The Lady Tigers won 24-26, 28-26, 25-19 and 25-17.
Campbellsville will now play Barton College and Union University tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 12 at 1 and 4 p.m, respectively. Live stats can be followed for each game – HERE.
It was just the fourth match of the season Campbellsville had its full squad together on the court and the Lady Tigers have started to find that rhythm.
Campbellsville outkilled the Lions 62-48 and also found the right matchup in the front line. After only recording one block against MSC foe University of the Cumberlands on Thursday night, the Lady Tigers have recorded a combined 29 in the first two matches at Lee.
CU was led by senior Jana Kortas and sophomore Annija Abolina with 18 kills each. The Lady Tigers also picked up a double-digit kill performance from junior Mirela Vasconselos (10).
Junior Inoa Fields also had a big night for CU, recording a career-high 54 assists.
Campbellsville fell in the first set 26-24 but rallied in the second winning 28-26. After getting behind 6-2 early in the second, the Lady Tigers rallied to knot the game at seven. Campbellsville then went on a 6-3 run to take a 15-12 lead and grew that lead to as big as five, 20-15. But Bryan College came back, going on a 7-2 run and tying the second set at 22.
After swapping points back and fourth and tying the set at 25, Kortas and Abolina picked up three of the last points and knot the match at one.
The third set was all Campbellsville. CU jumped to a 9-4 lead and grew that lead to as large as 20-10. Once again Bryan rallied late and cut the lead to five, 23-18, but Abolina stepped up with two kills to push CU ahead, 2-1.
The third set was neck-and-neck until Abolina once again put the Lady Tigers up for good with her final kill of the night, 15-14. Campbellsville ended the third set on a 10-3 run to knock off Bryan College.
The Lady Tigers got better as the match progressed. Starting the first and second sets with hitting percentages of 0.153 and 0.140, respectively. Campbellsville attacked at a .220 clip in the third set and .244 in the fourth.
