Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer falls to No. 10 Indiana Wesleyan

Mishawaka, Ind. — Campbellsville men's soccer dropped its first match of the season this evening at the Waterford Estates Classic hosted by Bethel College, falling to No. 10 Indiana Wesleyan, 1-nil.

It was Campbellsville's first game away from the Citizens Bank Field's artificial turf and the wet grass gave the Tigers' fits at the beginning.

Keaton Albert received a pass from Corey Lopez in the 23rd minute and put the Wildcats ahead, 1-0. Campbellsville (4-1, 1-0 MSC) was unable to respond even though recording 14 shots and eight on goal.

Assistant coach Alex Adams was filling in for head coach Adam Preston after the leader of the Tigers received a red card in CU's previous match last Saturday. Adams was very proud of the way the team fought to stay within striking distance the entire match.

"I am very proud of the guys tonight," said Adams. "Indiana Wesleyan is a very good team and we fought hard the entire match. We had every opportunity to score and get some momentum but unfortunately it didn't fall our way tonight."

Gonzalo Sapena, who was named the Mid-South Conference Defender of the Week two weeks ago, kept the Tigers within striking distance. He finished the match with a season-high 13 saves.

Campbellsville came into the match outscoring opponents 23-3 but were held scoreless for the first time in over a year. The Tigers have only been held without a goal twice in the last two-plus years — Sept. 6, 2014 against Grace College and Sept. 19, 2013 against Lindsey Wilson College.

"The team will learn from this game today and be better because of it," said Adams. "We have to come out tomorrow against Bethel and take advantage of the opportunities."

Campbellsville plays the host team Bethel College tomorrow, Sept. 12 at 5 p.m. ET. The game can be followed live on DakStats – HERE.
