MISHAWAKA, Ind. — Bethel College spoiled Campbellsville's weekend by defeating the Tigers 4-1 on the final day of the Waterford Estates Classic, thus handing CU its second loss in as many days.
Bethel (5-1) scored first with a goal from Helton Moura in the 29th minute assisted by Octavian Sayumwe and AJ Talbott.
Before the halftime break, though, Campbellsville responded with a strike from Diego Morales, and the Pilots and Tigers entered intermission knotted at one.
However, the Pilots unloaded in the second 45 minutes of action. BC scored back-to-back-to-back goals in the 58th, 68th and 84th minutes to widen the gap to the final, 4-1.
Bethel's go-ahead goal came from Moura, marking his first multi-goal game in his collegiate career. Floris De Koning netted Bethel's third score and was assisted by Talbott. Sayumwe posted the fourth and final goal, scoring his second goal of the weekend.
It was the Pilots first win over a team appearing in the national polls since August of 2012 when BC downed (RV) Ashford by a score of 3-0.
Campbellsville (4-2, 1-0 MSC) got off 11 shots, seven on goal; while Bethel had 15 and six on goal.
The Tigers will have an opportunity to end their skid when they meet St. Catharine (2-3, 0-1 MSC) in Springfield at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15.
