BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — After dropping both matches the day before in the Olivet Nazarene Tournament, Campbellsville (11-7, 3-2 MSC) regrouped and won both matches today in eight sets.
Trinity Christian College — (26-24, 25-22, 25-16)
The Lady Tigers used 52 kills to dominated the Trolls (5-9, 3-0 CCAC) in the first match of the day.
CU had three Lady Tigers with double-digits kills, senior Jana Kortas leading the way with 16, Annija Abolina and Mirela Vasconselos with 13 and 10, respectively. All three players had a .406 attack percentage or better.
Inoa Fields and Kortas were both just short of a double-double. Fields recorded 49 assists with nine digs while Kortas recorded eight digs with her 16 kills.
Jessie Pendleton dug up 20 digs on the defensive end.
TCC's Karliegh Krchmery recorded 11 kills and Tori Mantel made 27 assist in the match.
Olivet Nazarene University — (17-25, 25-21, 25-22, 19-25, 15-8)
The Lady Tigers kept Olivet (5-9) on their toes beating them in five sets, while they played ONU on their home court.
In the first set there were several lead changes. Olivet went on a 10-2 run and the Lady Tigers never recovered.CU started the second set hot, scoring three straight points. After ONU tied CU 4-all, the Lady Tigers never lost the lead. It was a close set until the end, both teams rallying but CU managed to pull it out with the combination of a service ace from Abolina and the final point from Maria Coelho's kill.
Despite committing 10 errors in the third set, CU managed to keep the lead after four lead changes in the opening rallies. The final point came from another kill by Coelho.
ONU kept things interesting by using 15 kills to beat CU in the fourth set, pushing the match to a fifth set. The first fifth set of the season for the Lady Tigers. In the final set, CU took advantage of the ONU's six errors and a negative attack percentage to win the match.
The Lady Tigers had three players with double-doubles. Fields recorded 46 assists and 15 digs. Abolina had the team-high 14 kills and dug up 10 balls. Kortas recorded 13 kills while picking up a team-high 18 digs on the defensive end along with three service aces.
Kortas only needs 53 more kills to become a member of the Lady Tiger's 1,000 Kill Club.
Campbellsville will remain on the road and will travel to No. 5 Lindsey Wilson on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Lady Tigers will return the first of October to match-up against another Conference foe, RVSt. Catharine College.
