COLUMBIA, Ky. -Â Lady Tiger Volleyball showed great heart against the No. 5 Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders tonight, but it just wasn't enough, falling 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 11-25, 12-25).
CU kept everybody on their toes as the first set got under way. The Lady Tigers rallied back and forth with the Blue Raiders tying the set eight different times. LWC never led more than four points. After a CU timeout, 20-18 on the scoreboard, it was point-for-point. LWC tied the score 23-all, but made a kill and a service ace to end the set.
Campbellsville quickly regrouped and started the second set with a purpose. The Lady Tigers out-killed the Blue Raiders 17 to 9 and took advantaged of LWC's errors. CU used a 7-2 run and a dagger from Jana Kortas at the end of the set to roll over the Raiders, tying the match 1-1.
LWC was perfect in the third set committing no errors and taking advantage of CU's 12. The Blue Raiders also used a .563 hitting percentage to make a 16-6 run to win the set.
The Blue Raiders started 4-0 in the fourth and final set but CU seemed to have an answer. They rallied to 10-6, but LWC scored four straight points forcing Campbellsville to call a timeout. Out of the timeout the Lady Tigers went on to score only six more points. The Blue Riders ended the match, 25-12.
As a whole, CU's errors (28) compared to LWC's (13) ultimately were the difference. All other stats were about even.
Annija Abolina lead the Lady Tigers with 13 kills. Maria Coelho and Jana Kortas were not far behind with 10 and nine, respectively.
NCCAA student-athlete of the week, Inoa Fields recorded 35 assists and three service aces. Brooklyn Bowling had three aces as well.
On the defensive end, Chanel Raymundo and Marcella Compeau recorded double-digits digs with 14 and 11, respectively.
Lindsey Wilson's Carol Siqueira recorded a double-double with 18 kills and 12 digs.
The Lady Tigers (11-8, 3-3 MSC) will return to the Powell Athletic Center for three straight home matches, all against conference foes. On Thursday, Oct. 1 CU will face St. Catharine College at 7 p.m. ET during Dig Pink Night.
