CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville dominated play against Kentucky Christian University collecting 42 shots with 22 on goal, defeating the Knights 9-1 tonight at Finley Stadium.
The last time the Tigers had 42 shots in a game they beat Tennessee Temple in 2013, 9-1. The win today marked the fourth-straight year Campbellsville has started the season 2-0.
Marcelo Petit recorded his fourth career hat trick and second straight match scoring three goals against KCU. All three of Petit's goals came in the second half, good for his 25th, 26th and 27th career goals. His first goal was an offensive rebound in the 48th minute. He used assists from Shane Buchanan and Ryan Foster for back-to-back goals in the 57th and 59th minutes, respectively.
Daniel Nimmo recorded the first goal of the game in the 13th minute on an assist from Ross Lindsay. This was Nimmo's first collegiate goal as a Tiger.
In the 31st minute Guilherme Cheng scored his first goal of the night and then added another in the 81st minute, which was his ninth and 10th of his career.Â
Abe Mendoza scored KCU's lone goal in the 55th minute off a penalty rebound.
Chris Moyo scored in the 66th minute off an assist from Petit, good for his third career goal. Alex Ryan scored on a penalty kick in the 71st minute good for his 15th career goal.
In the final minutes Ross Lindsay scored the Tigers' ninth goal with three minutes left to play.
Josh Hollis recorded no saves on the night because Campbellsville outshot the Knights by 39 attempts. KCU recorded only one shot on goal in which Mendoza scored.
The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 5 for a women's and men's doubleheader against Calumet College of St. Joseph. The Lady Tigers will begin at 6 p.m. with the Tigers to follow at 8 p.m. ET.Â
