Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lady Tigers roll past previously undefeated UPIKE, 67-53

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Lady Tiger basketball held No. 17 and undefeated University of Pikeville to its worst shooting performance of the season and rolled in the NAIA Network Game of the Week, 67-53.

The win extends Campbellsville's (17-3, 5-1 MSC) home win streak to 22-straight games and current season win streak to 11 straight.

Pikeville (17-1, 4-1 MSC) came in scoring 93.1 points per game and hitting 46 percent of its shots but No. 2 Campbellsville stuck to its patented twilight zone defense and held the Bears in check. UPIKE hit a season-low 32.2 percent (19-of-59) from the floor and turned the ball over 29 times.

Campbellsville's Lindsey Burd — who is coming off a 39-point, 10-rebound performance from Thursday's game — dominated the paint to pick up her second consecutive double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

It didn't take long for the Lady Tigers to set the tone. Campbellsville took a 21-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and held UPIKE scoreless for seven-plus minutes in the second quarter to take a 33-15 advantage at halftime. The 15 points for UPIKE is the lowest total for the Bears at the half this season.

Campbellsville pushed out to its largest lead of 31 points after Emily Fox drilled her fourth 3-pointer with time expiring in the third quarter. Fox finished just behind Burd with 17 points.

But Pikeville closed the game in the fourth quarter on a big run to make the score look closer than it really was. The Bears finished with an 18-3 run in the final 6:46 while Campbellsville cleared its bench for the majority of the fourth quarter.

During that stretch, the Bears' leading scorer Aundrea Matchen (17.5 ppg) and also the reigning Mid-South Conference and NAIA Player of the Week, scored her first and only points on the day – both from the free throw line.

Campbellsville finished hitting just 33.3 percent (20-of-60) from the floor and 4-of-16 (25 percent) from beyond the 3-point line – all four of those coming from the hand of Fox.

UPIKE was led by Prisha Rogers' 13 points, while Kelah Eldridge and Devin Conley both finished with nine. Matchen led the Bears with eight rebounds.

Campbellsville will now host St. Catharine College on Thursday, Jan. 21 with the doubleheader starting at 6 p.m. ET. Campbellsville will also partner with Sports Reach and Audience 1 Sports for the annual ShoePer Bowl shoe drive.
