Stewart's 18 points leads Lady Tigers past St. Catharine

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Campbellsville women's basketball answered the call at halftime and used a big third quarter run to down St. Catharine College tonight, 82-57.

Campbellsville (18-3, 6-1 MSC) went into halftime leading by only three points, 34-31 but then erupted in the third quarter, outscoring St. Catharine, 24-10 and putting the game out of reach.

Emily Fox led the Lady Tigers by hitting 5-of-9 3-pointers and scoring 20 points. The five 3-pointers ties her single-season mark and is just one behind her career mark of six, which she hit last season against University of Pikeville.

Madison Stewart also had a career night, eclipsing her previous high and finishing 7-of-9 from the floor for 18 points. Lexxus Graham also hit three triples and finished with 11 points. Lindsey Burd scored 10. Even though she did not score in double figures, LeeAnn Grider finished with seven points, five rebounds and eight assists. 

In that decisive third quarter, Campbellsville outshot St. Catharine and hit 6-of-13 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. The Lady Tigers also picked up six steals during that span.

The Lady Tigers slowly worked their lead in the 20s after Graham hit her third 3-pointer with 3:39 to go. In the final three minutes, Campbellsville's reserves finished hitting all four shots and nailed 3-of-4 from the charity stripe. CU's bench finished with 34 points compared to only 15 for St. Catharine.

Campbellsville finished hitting 51 percent from the floor (30-of-59) and 53 percent from behind the 3-point line (9-of-17). St. Catharine struggling hitting only 38.5 percent.

The big stat line that stood out was the Patriots out-rebounded Campbellsville, 36-29. St. Catharine had 11 offensive rebounds and capitalized with 13 second-chance points.

The Lady Tigers were scheduled to return to the court Saturday but weather has cancelled their matchup at Tougaloo. Campbellsville will now wait a week to host Shawnee State University on Thursday Jan. 28 at 6 p.m.
