No. 1 Lady Tigers pick up revenge over No. 5 Shawnee State

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The top-ranked Lady Tigers forced a season-high 28 turnovers to secure their 24th-straight home win and knocked off No. 5 Shawnee State University, 65-53

In the first NAIA top-five showdown in Powell Athletic Center since Dec. 11, 2010, Campbellsville (19-3, 7-1 MSC) capitalized on a five-minute scoring drought in the fourth quarter from which Shawnee State (18-3, 6-1 MSC) was not able to recover.

Four Lady Tigers scored in double figures, with Madison Stewart leading the way with 13 points. LeeAnn Grider and Lexxus Graham finished with 12 and 10, respectively.

Lindsey Burd grabbed her fourth double-double of the season, with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Abby Miller recorded a career-high five steals.

From the 1:02 mark of the third period until the 6:14 mark in the fourth, Campbellsville held Shawnee scoreless. Campbellsville controlled the game with a 13-0 run, tying the largest lead of the game. Shawnee State went to reigning MSC Player of the Year, Ali Zieverink, for a couple of quick buckets to bring the lead back to single digits with three minutes left to play.

But the killer for Shawnee State — a technical foul on coach Jeff Nickel was called at the three-minute mark — gave Campbellsville an advantage that it would never let go.

With one minute left in the contest, Grider picked up a steal to push CU's lead to 13 with a Burd layup off a pass. Madison Stewart put the nail in the coffin with 30 seconds remaining, scoring the last points for the Lady Tigers with a layup off an inbounds pass from Grider.

Zieverink recorded her fourth double-double of the season, scoring 24 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

The Lady Tigers return to Powell Athletic Center on Saturday, Jan. 30 for a 2 p.m. ET matchup against rival Georgetown College.
