Burd's double-double not good enough for No. 1 CU

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Lindsey Burd scored a game-high 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds but No. 1 Campbellsville could not cool down the hot hand of rival Georgetown College, falling 66-62.

Today's home loss ends a 24-game win streak at Powell Athletic Center. The Lady Tigers last loss at home came almost two years ago on Feb. 15, 2014.

Georgetown's Jessica Foster hit her second 3-point basket to knot the game at 27 with 6:31 remaining in the second quarter. On the next possession, Lydia Graves drained her only triple to give GC a 30-27 lead – a lead Campbellsville would not be able to dent.

Campbellsville (19-4, 7-2 MSC) had only trailed at halftime in three games this season and brought in a 2-1 record but that was evened today. Georgetown (9-11, 4-4 MSC) took a six-point, 41-35, lead and was on fire in the first half hitting 52 percent (15-of-29). Campbellsville, on the other hand, started slow and was unable to recover. The Lady Tigers hit 37 percent (11-of-30) in the first half and only 11-of-34 (32 percent) in the second.

Georgetown jumped to its largest lead of eight points, 48-40, just three minutes into the second half but Campbellsville rallied with a 10-2 run to knot the game at 50 – the first tie since the score was 32-all with 4:10 left in the second quarter.

The final 14 minutes was a typical knock down, drag out between the two rivals.

Georgetown's Abbey Van Zant drilled her second 3 and pushed the Tigers back ahead, 53-50 and that deficit for CU remained at the end of the third quarter – 57-54.

In the fourth period, Georgetown came back down to earth, hitting only 3-of-13 (23 percent) but Campbellsville was unable to make up any ground. The Lady Tigers' woes continued hitting only 2-of-14 (14 percent). Campbellsville also finished with five of its 20 turnovers in the final quarter.

The Lady Tigers had a few chances late to tie or take the lead. Burd scored four-straight points — hitting Campbellsville's last field goal at the 2:55 mark and then two free throws to cut the deficit to one, 63-62.

But that was the last Campbellsville point, as the Lady Tigers went 0-for-6 to close out the game. CU had a chance to tie the game at 64 with 17 seconds left. LeeAnn Grider missed a contested layup and Lindey Burd picked up her 13th rebound but missed the follow.

Foster picked up the rebound and was fouled by Grider with 15 seconds remaining. Foster hit 1-of-2 to push the lead to three, 65-62. Emily Fox was the Lady Tigers' last hope with five seconds left. Her 3-point attempt missed and Teonia McCune grabbed the board to seal the win.

Foster finished with 27 points to lead Georgetown. She also surpassed 1,000 career points in her carer in the first half.

Fox, the NAIA's leading 3-point shooter coming into the game, struggled overall hitting 2-of-15 from the floor and 2-of-12 from the 3-point line. As a team, Campbellsville hit just 4-of-19 from 3.

Campbellsville will now have a night off in Mid-South Conference play and hosts NCAA DII Lane College on Thursday night (Feb. 4) at 6 p.m. ET.
