Bailey James wins Thomas Burris to lead CU bowling

LEXINGTON, Ky. — After a cancellation last week at the Thomas Burris Memorial Classic, Tiger and Lady Tiger bowling were finally able to get back in their grooves at Eastland Lanes Friday night. Bailey James came away with medalist honors to help the Lady Tigers to a runner-up finish.

Campbellsville finished right behind University of Pikeville and had three Lady Tigers finish in the Top 10. James led the way, finishing with a pin count of 948. Her best game came in the first round – bowling a 242 – which was the highest throughout the men's and women's tournament combined.

Crystal Land finished in sixth place with a pin count of 909, while Chelsey Stephens finished ninth with a total of 886. Land and James were also named to the All-Tournament team.

Outside of the Top 10 - Ashley Newman finished in 19th with a count of 857, while Kylah Martin finished with a score of 803 to place in 33rd.

Pikeville won the women's tournament with a total pin count of 6607, while Campbellsville finished right behind with a count of 6492.

"Our women's team is playing to their potential right now," said CU coach Jamie Lawrence. "Bailey James had a remarkable day by truly living up to her expectations."

The Tigers finished in seventh place in the 13-team tournament. Martin Methodist won the Classic with a pin count of 6773, while Campbellsville finished with a score of 6303.

Andrew Lissik led the Tigers, placing ninth. He finished with a count of 913 while Cory Schultz of Morehead State University won medalist honors bowling a total score of 1051.

Campbellsville had four others place in the Top 50 – Devon Gunderson (845, 26th), Ryan Bremer (831, 29th), Hudson Haynes (811, 37th) and Jon Henderson (769, 45th).

"The men's team is building chemistry as they are moving up the ranks," said Lawrence. "The future is bright for both the men and women and we are excited about what the future holds."

Both the Tigers and Lady Tigers are in action on Saturday at the Bulldog Classic in Richmond, Ky. Results will be made available on Sunday.

The Mid-South Conference standings were also released on Saturday morning. The standings are below:
