Burd's third-straight double-double leads CU past Lane

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Lindsey Burd finished with her third consecutive double-double and led Campbellsville past Lane College in a non-conference matchup, 71-54.

Burd, the reigning Mid-South Conference Player of the Year, tallied her sixth double-double of the season with 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead CU.

Campbellsville (20-4, 7-2 MSC) struggled shooting from the floor in the first half, hitting just 30 percent (11-of-36) and 1-of-16 from behind the 3-point line. The Lady Tigers did improve after the break, hitting 47 percent (14-of-30) in the second half.

Campbellsville blazed out to a 17-point lead just two minutes in the third quarter, a lead which would not be relinquished. Emily Fox contributed with her lone 3 and sparked a 15-2 run. Fox finished with 11 points and three blocks, while teammate Lexxus Graham nailed three 3-pointers of her own and scored nine points.

Campbellsville led by as much as 25 in the fourth quarter. After Abby Miller scored two of her six points off a turnover, the Dragons used Niya Royal and Valerie Leland to keep in pursuit.

Royal finished with 16 points to lead the Dragons, while LeLand finished with 14.

With Campbellsville ahead by 25 points with 7:40 remaining, Lane College went on a 14-3 run and cut the deficit to 14 points, 65-41. But time was on the side of the Lady Tigers, as that was as close as the Dragons would get in the final two minutes.

CU's bench was a big contributor tonight. Madison Stewart finished with 10 points, while Madison Kaiser had six, and Lauren Turner scored three.

Campbellsville used its speed and size to get to the free throw line. The Lady Tigers shot 25 free throws, hitting 16, while Lane College hit 8-of-14.

The Lady Tigers hit the road for three-straight games starting on Saturday, Feb. 6 with a Mid-South Conference matchup at St. Catharine College. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET at Lourdes Hall in Springfield, Ky.
