Lady Tigers sweep Bethel to continue three-match win streak

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Lady Tiger Volleyball extended their win streak to three matches tonight, sweeping Bethel University, 26-24, 25-22, 25-18, in the Powell Athletic Center.
 
Set one started neck-and-neck until the Lady Tigers (16-7, 6-2 MSC) finally used a 5-0 run to lead 23-20. Bethel (16-5) fought back with a 3-0 run to tie the set at 23, and again at 24. CU rallied to claim the set 26-24.
 
Both teams continued to battle in the second set, neither allowing significant runs bringing set two to a tie at 20. Annija Abolina sparked a 5-1 run over the Wildcats with three kills to win the set, 25-22.
 
The Lady Tigers really found their momentum in set three, taking off on a 9-1 run to hold off the Wildcats 11-4. Campbellsville continued to lead bringing the score to 20-10. Bethel attempted a comeback, building an 8-4 run before the Lady Tigers claimed the set 25-18 and the match 3-0.
 
Campbellsville was led by Abolina with 13 kills, closely followed by Maria Coelho with 11. Inoa Fields was credited with 38 of the Lady Tigers' 41 assists to round out the offense. Bethel's Eloisa Sales sported 22 kills to drive the Wildcats' offense.
 
On the defensive side, Jessie Pendleton collected 11 of the Tigers' 44 digs followed by Coelho (8) and Fields (7). Bethel's Yumi Garcia led the entire court in digs with 16 of the Wildcats' 48.
 
Campbellsville's hitting percentage reached .304 for the match compared to Bethel's .159.
 
The Lady Tigers hit the road next Tuesday, Oct. 18 for a conference matchup against the Cumberland University Phoenix at 7 p.m. CU returns to the Powell Athletic Center on Thursday, Oct. 20 to take on No. 5 Lindsey Wilson at 7 p.m.
