LEBANON, Tenn. — Campbellsville used a 12-2 run in the third set to steal momentum from Cumberland University and the Lady Tigers went on to defeat the Phoenix tonight in four sets, 25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 25-14.
The win allows CU (18-7, 7-2 MSC) to cling to third place in the conference standings, one game ahead of the University of the Cumberlands. The Phoenix slip to 16-12, 4-8 MSC.
The first set was tied five times, the last time at 15-all, before the Lady Tigers took control and held on for the three-point win, 25-22.
The second set was tied 13 times, with Cumberland winning the last two points for a 25-23 win.
The third set was a tone-setter for the remainder of the match. Trailing 20-13,
Inoa Fields picked up a kill that kick-started a 12-2 run from which Cumberland never recovered.
Campbellsville went on another big run in the fourth set (8-0) that gave the Lady Tigers a 21-11 lead.
Jessie Stone's kill ended the match.
Annija Abolina led a 55-kill attack with 17 and
Katie Johnson and
Julia Fonseca had 11 each.
Inoa Fields had a double-double with 35 assists and 17 digs. She also led the team in aces with three.
Jessie Stone, Abolina and Fonseca all had three blocks apiece.
Jessie Pendleton led the team with 31 digs.
Savannah Moss added 15.
The Lady Tigers hit .235 to Cumberland's .192. The Phoenix had five more kills than CU, but Cumberland committed 10 more errors.
