CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Coming in winning four-straight matches and five of the last six, Lady Tiger volleyball ran into one of the best programs in the country as No. 5 Lindsey Wilson College downed CU in four sets, 15-25, 17-25, 25-23 and 9-25.
Lindsey Wilson (21-1, 9-1 MSC) jumped out quick and never looked back in the first two sets. The Blue Raiders hit an astonishing .464 in the first set, finishing with 14 kills and one error compared to Campbellsville's 14 and eight. In the second, LWC had a set-high 15 kills with two errors compared to CU's 14 and six.
That was the nemesis all night for the Lady Tigers (18-8, 5-3 MSC), as they finished with a hitting percentage of .109. The Blue Raiders countered that with a remarkable hitting percentage of .364 and 14 blocks which, ended up being too much for Campbellsville to overcome.
After the Blue Raiders put away the first two sets, Campbellsville rallied and brought life to Powell Athletic Center. The Lady Tigers finished with 15 kills in that third set and Lindsey Wilson's hitting percentage dropped below .300 for the only time all night with a set-high five errors.
In the third set, Campbellsville jumped out to a 6-1 lead but the Blue Raiders battled back to knot the match at 12 and 13 before the Lady Tigers would keep the momentum going. CU went on a 4-0 run (17-13) forcing coach Andy Cavins to call a timeout and later CU would once again push its lead to six, 21-16, with a pair of aces from by
Savannah Moss.
LWC would look to rally for the sweep and cut the CU lead back to one, 24-23, but
Maria Coelho delivered one of her nine kills to keep the Lady Tigers alive.
In that third set,
Annija Abolina led all players with six kills. She finished the night with a match-high 19 kills and hit .277 to lead CU.
But like the match on Sept. 13 in Columbia, the Blue Raiders would dominate one of the sets. Lindsey Wilson took a commanding 10-1 lead after five-straight attack errors by the Lady Tigers. LWC would then push its fourth-set lead to double-digits, 12-2, and Campbellsville could not find an answer tonight as the Blue Raiders ended the match on a 13-7 run.
Lindsey Wilson used a steady attack from Elly Burke and Lauren Streets, as both finished with 13 kills. Eileen Acuna also pitched in with 12 kills for LWC.
CU's
Inoa Fields led the Lady Tigers with 33 assists, while
Jessie Pendleton had 18 digs and Abolina pitched in 12. LWC's Makenzie Montano led the match with 50 assists.
