OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — In their first tournament of the season, Lady Tiger wrestling came away with a pair of first-place finishes at the Blue Chip Oklahoma City Women's open, as
Charlotte Fowler and
Rebecca Carson led the way for Campbellsville.
Fowler, a freshman from Katy, Texas, competed in the 109lb weight class and came away with a first-place finish. She dominated Tori Degginger of Lindenwood University with a tech fall (12-1) in 5:46. Fowler finished the tournament going 7-0 overall.
Carson, a junior from Cypress, Texas, was wrestling at 191 and also earned first-place honors but in the Silver Results Division. Carson, who was 2-0 throughout the tournament, pinned Missouri Valley's Alyssa Cantu in 5:04.
Another freshman,
McKenzie Bacich finished in 12
th place in the 101lb class but rallied in the Silver Results Division to place second. Bacich went 2-1 in the tournament and lost via tech fall (11-1) in 3:50 to Menlo College's Hiba Salem.
Also in the 101lb weight class, sophomore Lindsay Prozanski rallied in the Silver Results Division placing fourth. She lost via 10-4 decision to Emmanuel College's Alouette Gonzalez and went 3-2 overall in the tournament.
Kaitlyn Hill and
Sophia Carson were also on the mat this weekend, as Hill, a junior from Constantine, Mich., placed fourth at 170. Hill, who went 4-3 overall, lost 8-0 to Menlo's Precious Bell in the third place match.
Carson, another highly-touted freshman from Cypress, Texas, finished in seventh place at 143. She finished the tournament at 3-3 overall and defeated Bethany Davis of Missouri Valley with a 10-0 tech fall in 1:48.
The Lady Tigers will now travel to Jacksonville, Ill. for the MacMurray Highlands Wrestling Tournament on Friday, Nov. 4.
