WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — Almost one month ago, Lady Tiger volleyball had to rally from being down two-sets to none to University of the Cumberlands in Powell Athletic Center but tonight it was a straight-set sweep over the Patriots in Williamsburg.
The Lady Tigers earned their third-straight sweep and eighth of the season, 25-14, 25-16, 25-23.
Campbellsville improves its record to 21-8 overall and 8-3 inside the Mid-South Conference. The Lady Tigers now own a half-game lead over Cumberlands (19-7, 8-3) and hold the tie-breaker over the Patriots with the season sweep. CU is currently third in standings behind Lindsey Wilson, who sits a top the standings at 9-1, while Georgetown is second at 11-2.
Annija Abolina led CU with 12 kills on 22 attacks to finish with an astonishing .455 hitting percentage tonight. She came into tonight's match with 398 kills and eclipsed the 400-kill mark for the first time in her career.
Campbellsville dominated and Cumberlands struggled out of the gates. Leading 13-11 in the opening set, Campbellsville set the tone with how the rest of the match would go. CU went on an 11-3 run while the Patriots finished with a hitting percentage of .000 with six kills and six errors on 27 attacks. The Lady Tigers on the other hand delivered 13 kills in the first set.
In the second set it was all Campbellsville again, finishing with a match-high hitting percentage of .382. CU kept its momentum going by jumping out to an 8-2 lead before the Patriots would call a timeout.
Campbellsville would then push its lead to eight points, 16-8, and the margin of victory would stay the same until
Jessie Stone delivered one of the seven service aces giving CU the nine-point victory, 25-16.
The third set was a nail-bitter to the end. Neck-and-neck throughout, the lead for either team would never get higher than two points. Cumberlands jumped out to a 12-10 lead forcing coach
Amy Zink to call her first timeout of the match. The Patriots would also lead 20-18 but Campbellsville ended the match on a 7-3 run.
Inoa Fields led the Lady Tigers with 32 assists and delivered five kills from the setter position. Reigning Mid-South Conference Defender of the Week,
