PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Lady Tiger volleyball earned its fourth-straight sweep Thursday night winning in straight-sets over University of Pikeville, 25-17, 25-14, 25-16.
Campbellsville (22-8, 8-3 MSC) now sits in third place in the conference standings with University of the Cumberlands, but the Lady Tigers hold the tie-breaker over the Patriots after sweeping them this season. CU has a pair of conference matches remaining in the regular season, as it hosts Georgetown College and Shawnee State University next week.
Maria Coelho and
Julia Fonseca led the Lady Tiger attack with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Fonseca finished the night hitting 11-of-15 good for a remarkable hitting percentage of .733.
The Bears struggled all night finishing with a hitting percentage of .026. UPIKE had just 21 kills on 76 attacks compared to the Lady Tigers 35 kills on 77 attacks.
In the first set, the two foes were tied at six-all but before UPIKE could notice, the Lady Tigers were ahead 14-8 with an 8-2 run. Later on the Bears cut into the CU lead, 18-15, but the Lady Tigers were on fire in the opening frame with an opening hitting percentage of .409. and would score seven of the next nine points to take a 1-0 match lead.
In the second set, Campbellsville cooled off a bit but still out-hit UPIKE .296 to -.040. The Bears finished with a match-low just five kills in the second set.
Campbellsville jumped out early by doubling up the Bears, 12-6, and never looked back taking a 2-0 match lead, 25-14.
The third set watch much like the first and second. UPIKE took a brief lead 5-4 but Campbellsville went on a 10-4 run to steal the momentum right back, ending up winning 25-16.
Inoa Fields finished the night with a match-high 32 assists.
The Lady Tigers now travel to the Boneyard Brawl this weekend at Georgetown College. CU plays Taylor University on Friday, Oct. 28 and then has a doubleheader vs. Columbia and Lourdes at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively on Saturday. Unfortunately, there will not be live links at the Georgetown Boneyard Brawl.
