#10 Lindsey Wilson wins Battle of Highway 55, 54-33 over CU

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Lindsey Wilson College scored 40 points in the second half – 33 in the third quarter - and Campbellsville was unable to hold down the 10th-ranked Blue Raiders, 54-33.

With two of the top scoring offenses in the NAIA, it was expected to be a high-scoring affair. It seemed to be just that as both teams traded touchdowns in the first seven minutes.

Lindsey Wilson (9-1, 3-1 MSC West) fumbled the opening kickoff and Campbellsville (1-7, 0-4 MSC West) converted with a 1-yard touchdown rush by Hunter Brown. The Blue Raiders answered right back, though, knotting the score at seven with a 2-yard rush by Jalen Sublett – the first of his two touchdowns on the day.

Bradley Bates nailed the first of his two field goals in the first half on the next CU drive giving CU a 10-7 lead but once again LWC answered. Dylan Beasley put the Blue Raiders back on top with a 6-yard rush to start the second quarter and Lindsey Wilson never trailed from that point on.

Bates was able to keep Campbellsville within on point in the first half (14-13) with his second field – a 28-yarder – to tie the single-season record set by future CU Hall of Fame kicker Donnie Johnson in 2003 (14). But that score with 10:26 remaining in the second quarter was the last time CU saw points go on the board until 6:30 left in the third quarter.

In that span, Lindsey Wilson scored twice – Jayven Jones rushed for a nine-yarder and Beasley hit Cedric Washington 60-yards giving the Blue Raiders the 26-13 advantage.

But CU rallied right back. Tyus Alcorn caught a Brown pass and raced 23-yards to the end zone with 6:30 left in the third to cut the deficit back to a one-score LWC lead, 26-19. After that the Blue Raiders would then score 21 points in only eight plays from scrimmage to blow the game open, 47-19.

Blake Ingleton started the scoring by catching a 23-yard TD from Beasley. Then on the ensuing drive by Campbellsville, Brown was intercepted on the second play by D'Andre Hart setting up another Blue Raider score. A pair of unsportsmanlike penalties called on Campbellsville set LWC up on the 1-yard line and Beasley capitalized with a touchdown pushing the score to 40-19.

Penalties hurt the Tigers today, as Campbellsville was called for 18 flags and finished with 136 penalty yards.

The flood gates opened more for Campbellsville after LWC went ahead 40-19. On the ensuing kickoff, CU fumbled and the Blue Raiders recovered and scored on the first play from scrimmage – a 21-yard pass and catch from Beasley to Tyrone Stallard.

Turnovers also haunted CU, as both mishaps turned into 14 points for Lindsey Wilson.

After scoring only six points in the third quarter, Campbellsville was able to score twice in the fourth but it was too little too late. Brown hit Kendon Young for a 5-yard TD and Chantz Goodman finished the scoring with a 56-yard rush up the middle.

Brown finished the day throwing for 359 yards on 38-of-62 passing. The 36 completions set a new single-game record for CU and the 359 yards pushed Brown over the 3,000-yard mark for the season – just the second Tiger to ever do so (Jacob Russell).

In addition, Tyus Alcorn led the receiving core with nine catches for 119 yards and a touchdown. Alcorn surpassed the 2,000-yard career mark and continues to improve his career touchdown reception record with 33.

Lindsey Wilson's Beasley was on the money all day, finishing with 413 yards on 32-of-40 passing good for a QB rating of 191.5. He also rushed for a pair of touchdowns along with Sublett.

Campbellsville will now travel to No. 3 Reinhardt University (9-0, 3-0 MSC West) next Saturday, Nov. 5. The Tiger Tailgate Show starts at 1:00 with kickoff following at 1:30 in Waleska, Ga. Live links will be available on CampbellsvilleTigers.com.
