Lady Tiger Volleyball puts away Kentucky State in four sets

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Campbellsville hit a robust .298 for the match, .444 in the fourth set, and put away Kentucky State in four sets tonight, 25-22, 25-27, 25-18, 25-17.

Playing in KSU 's Exum Center, the Lady Tigers (16-7, 6-2 MSC) had four players with double-figure kills, led by Maria Coelho's 13, six in the final set. Annija Abolina (.444) and Julia Fonseca (.421) were particularly efficient in collecting 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Jessie Stone also added 10 kills.

It was the second time this season that Campbellsville beat Kentucky State in four sets.

Inoa Fields led the team and everyone else with 44 assists, barely missing a double-double by picking up nine digs.

Jessie Pendleton, the three-time MSC Defender of the Week, led everyone with 26 digs. Coelho added 10 for a double-double. Savannah Moss had three of CU's six service aces.

Payton Richardson led the Thorobreds (KSU 12-10, 8-1 SIAC) with 11 kills. Anjelique Kyle and Micah Rogers had 13 digs apiece for KSU.

Campbellsville won the first set even though the Lady Tigers had only nine kills with 10 less attacks than their opponent. But CU hit .318 that set and only made two errors.

In the second set, CU laid down 18 kills, but lost late by a 27-25 score.

The Lady Tigers picked it up in the third and fourth sets, hitting .294 and .444. Campbellsville beat KSU 55-42 in the kill department and had 10 less errors.

The Lady Tigers will take 10 days off before hosting non-conference opponent Bethel University on Thursday, Oct. 13 in the Powell Athletic Center.
