Georgetown roars past CU in four riveting sets

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Powell Athletic Center was roaring tonight as a Mid-South Conference's pair of Tigers fought for a rival victory, Georgetown College leaving with a 3-1 win.
 
Georgetown College (27-6, 12-2 MSC) battled with CU in the beginning of the first set to a 7-7 tie. Campbellsville took off on a 8-2 run to bring the score to 15-10. After knotting the set again at 16, Georgetown gained momentum and claimed the set, 25-20.
 
CU (24-9, 10-2 MSC) wasn't having it, beginning the second set with an 8-0 run. Georgetown came back to tie the set at 15, then fell off to allow Campbellsville to win the set, 25-22.
 
The third set went to Georgetown (25-21), who took it over from the start with a 7-1 run, never giving CU a chance.
 
Set four began and ended neck and neck. The Tigers tied the set every other point from 22-on until Georgetown finally pulled away from Campbellsville 38-36.
 
Annija Abolina mastered Campbellsville's only double-double with 21 kills and 10 digs. Maria Coelho followed with 13 kills. Georgetown's Jenny Howell and Ashlee Hill mirrored Campbellsville's leading offense with 21 and 13 kills, respectively.
 
Inoa Fields finished with a match-high 48 assists, while Georgetown's Gracen Howard had 46.
 
Campbellsville dominated in service aces, hitting nine over the course of the match compared to Georgetown's two.
 
Driving Campbellsville's defense was Katie Johnson grabbing 18 digs, while Jessie Pendleton collected 14. Georgetown had five players with double-digit digs - Maddie Kunkel (16), Howard (16), Courtney Grafton (13), Howell (12), and Sarah Snyder (10).
 
The CU Lady Tigers host another conference match on Friday, Nov. 4 as they take on Shawnee State University at 7 p.m. A junior varsity match will start at 5:00.
