CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – After losing three matches in a row, Lady Tiger Volleyball redeemed themselves tonight with a 3-1 win over Shawnee State University, 24-26, 25-22, 25-22, 25-19.
Campbellsville (24-8, 10-4 MSC) went back and forth with the Bears (5-23, 0-13 MSC) in the beginning of the first set. After knotting the score at eight, the Lady Tigers took off on a 5-0 run in hopes of pulling away. Shawnee struggled to keep up with the score at 23-20, then took a 6-1 run to conclude the set 24-26.
The Lady Tigers and the Bears were neck and neck in set two, tying the set a total of 17 times. Campbellsville regrouped with a timeout once the score reached 23-22 and broke away with two points to win the set 25-22.
Set three was a battle much like the first two. Once again, the Lady Tigers rallied at the end to win the set 25-22.
Campbellsville set the tone early in the fourth set, taking the lead 14-11 and forcing Shawnee to take a timeout. The Lady Tigers held the lead throughout the set with 17 kills and two service aces to win the set, 25-19, and the match, 3-1.
The Lady Tigers' offense was led by the trio of
Annija Abolina,
Maria Coelho, and
Julia Fonseca with 17, 16, and 15 kills, respectively.
Inoa Fields led Campbellsville in assists totaling 56 and also made four of CU's nine service aces tonight.
Jessie Pendleton and
Savannah Moss drove the defense with 15 and nine digs, respectively.
Lady Tiger volleyball will complete their regular season schedule Monday, Nov. 7 against Indiana University Southeast for Senior Night in Powell Athletic Center at 7 p.m. ET. Campbellsville will compete for the Mid-South Conference tournament Nov. 10-12 in Bowling Green, Ky.
