BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Second-seed Campbellsville University used a header by
Guilherme Fanck in the 56
th minute and slipped past Cumberland University tonight in its semifinal match in the Mid-South Conference Tournament, 1-0.
The Phoenix had 10 more shots (15-5) than the Tigers and twice as many shots on goal (8-4). But keeper
Gonzalo Sapena was sensational guarding the net. He saved all eight of Cumberland's shots on goal, many of them bullets, three off the foot of Daniel Williams.
Cumberland kept the pressure on most of the first half when it allowed only two CU shots. The Phoenix (10-7-1) fell victim to a corner-kick feed from
Ross Lindsay that Fanck caromed in off the side of his head.
Fanck led the team with two shots, both on goal.
Diego Morales,
Yudai Yamauchi and
Lucas Cury accounted for the Tigers' other shots.
The win moves the Campbellsville (15-0-2) to the conference's final match, which will be played on Friday, Nov. 11 at 8:30 p.m. ET at Jim Ross Field on the campus of Warren East High School. The Tigers will play No. 16 and 1 seeded Lindsey Wilson College (13-4-1).
