CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Seniors
Jessie Stone and
Inoa Fields, along with the rest of Lady Tiger volleyball, ended their regular season on a good note with a sweep of Indiana University Southeast on senior night.
Campbellsville (25-11, 10-4 MSC) tried to set the tone for the match with a 4-0 run over the Grenadiers to begin the first set. Slowly, but surely, IUS fought its way back to knot the set at nine. Determined to conquer the set, the Lady Tigers pulled away with a 4-1 run and held the lead until winning the set, 25-19.
The Grenadiers (23-13) countered with a 4-0 run to kick off the second set. After a few attack errors by IUS, the Lady Tigers caught up and gained the lead with an 8-2 run, eventually winning the set 25-22.
Set three proved to be a challenge for the Lady Tigers, as the Grenadiers battled for another chance to win a set and stay alive in the match. Knotting the set 11 times, neither team was giving up easily. After falling behind 19-15, Campbellsville utilized both timeouts to regroup and muster eight kills to win the set, 25-23, and the match, 3-0.
Maria Coelho led the Lady Tiger offense with 11 kills along with
Julia Fonseca and
Annija Abolina who collected eight apiece. Campbellsville totaled 37 kills for the match compared to the 39 by IUS. The Grenadiers were driven by Mary Dye who also had 12 kills, followed by Monica Loftus and Hannah Joly tied with seven.
Inoa Fields completed her last regular season match with a double-double in assists (29) and digs (10). She dominated the court in assists compared to the Grenadiers' leader, Haylee Barker, who had 26.
Claiming the most digs on the court,
Jessie Pendleton drove the defense with 20 compared to IUS's Hannah Joly and Natalie Keene who had 15 and 13, respectively.
For her senior regular season, Stone contributed 181 kills and 513 total attacks, while also collecting 105 digs. Fields sports 1,310 assists for the year along with 370 digs and 95 kills.
Lady Tiger volleyball travels to Bowling Green, Ky. on Thursday, Nov. 10 to kick off the Mid-South Conference Tournament against Cumberland University at 8:30 p.m. ET.
