Nine Lady Tigers finish in Top 5 at MacMurray Women's Open

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. — Campbellsville had nine Lady Tigers finish in the Top 5 and three finish runner-up in their respective weight classes at the MacMurray Highlander Open this weekend.

Erica Sotelo, Rebecca Carson and Morgan Becker all finished second to lead Campbellsville.

Sotelo, wrestling at 130 lbs., earned a pair of byes before defeating Jill Blanchard of MacMurray via a 10-0 tech fall in the semifinals. Sotelo then met Erika Mihalca from Missouri Baptist in the finals and lost via a 7-4 decision.

Carson, wrestling at 191 lbs., picked up three-straights wins to set up her championship match. Carson defeated Roni Goodale with a 13-2 tech fall then dominated Missouri Baptist's Tauteletou Moe with a pin in 45 seconds. She then battled Darcie Manning-O'Brien from Missouri Baptist in the finals and lost via a pin in 1:31.

Becker, wrestling at 155 lbs., also picked up a trio of wins throughout the bracket before falling in the finals. Becker pinned MacMurray's Jezebel Pardo in 2:30 then won by consecutive tech falls over Kenya Henderson and Kerlie Richemond in the quarter-and semifinals. Becker faces Niauni Hill in the finals and lost 11-0.

Campbellsville also had three Lady Tigers finish in third place – Ruby Ariosa-Danobeytia, Kaitlyn Hill and Steffanie Hampton.

Ariosa, wrestling at 101 lbs., received a bye in the first round before falling to eventual winner Coellet Rangel in the second round. Missouri Baptist's Maria Ahumada also defeated Ariosa with a pin in 1:06 in the consolation bracket.

Hill, wrestling at 170, received a first-round bye but fell via pin to Cynthia Perez in the semifinals. Hill then rallied in the consolation bracket with two consecutive victories – one over Sandra Garcia (pin 2:37) and Joanna Mack (tech fall 16-6).

Hampton, wrestling at 136 lbs., lost her first round match, 7-4, to Cheyenne Yongblood but also made some noise in the consolation bracket. Hampton received a bye before picking up a tech fall victory over Yasmin Flores, a pin over Nola Parker (0:38) and also pinning Lindsay Villarmia in 2:28 to finish third.
 
Other Lady Tigers to place were Katie Brock (4th), Sophia Carson (4th) and Maria Ramos (5th).

Campbellsville will now travel to the New York Athletic Club Fila Tournament in New York on Wednesday-Thursday, Nov. 9-10.
