CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Sophomore
Jordan Doram scored a career-high 16 points and matched another with 13 rebounds for her first-career double-double, leading the Lady Tigers past University of Mobile on Saturday night, 65-49.
Playing the final game on Day 1 of the Mid-South Conference/Southern States Athletic Conference, Campbellsville (9-2) pushed the MSC's record to a perfect 3-0. Pikeville defeated Bethel and Shawnee State defeated Martin Methodist on Saturday.
Doram led Campbellsville's offensive attack in the night cap, as the Lady Tigers scored 36 points in the paint compared to only 20 for Mobile. The Lady Tigers only hit two Edward Jones 3-point baskets and finished just 60 percent (15-of-25) from the free throw line, but countered that by scoring 17 points off 25 Mobile (4-3) turnovers – a season-high for the Rams.
CU held an early advantage at the end of the first quarter, 19-12, but with just over two minutes played in the second quarter,
Madison Stewart scored her first points of the season to spark the Lady Tigers to their first double-figure lead, 23-12. Stewart, who missed the first 10 games with a foot injury, played in 19 minutes and scored nine points – good for the team's second-high scoring effort along with
Lexxus Graham.
Madison Clements nailed CU's first triple with 5:41 in the second quarter to push the Lady Tigers lead to 26-16 and Doram drew her third charge in the first 15 minutes of play to put the third foul on Mobile's Alexis Fletcher.
Fletcher didn't foul the rest of the contest but the Rams were in foul trouble all night. Fletcher went to the bench and was joined by teammates Sydney Westry and Starla Daggan – who had two.
CU took advantage with a quick 9-0 run to lead 32-16, as Mobile went 4:00 without a point.
After re-entering the game with 2:00 in the half, Daggan ended up committing her third foul with 1:25 on the clock, and Campbellsville took a 33-20 halftime lead.
The Rams came out quick in the second half with a 5-0 run but
LeeAnn Grider ended CU's drought with 5:06 left in the quarter for the first Lady Tiger points.
With 2:25 left in the third quarter and the shot clock running low, Doram sparked CU once again. She picked up an errant shot and just beat the buzzer to push CU back ahead by double-figures, 41-30. Mobile would not cut the deficit under 10 the rest of the way.
Mobile finished the game hitting just two of its final 10 shots, as Kali Koenig led the UM with 13 points. The Rams shot 32.8 percent from the floor (20-of-61) and 45 percent from the charity stripe (5-of-11).
