Lady Tigers use big third quarter to subdue Thomas, 83-59

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Lady Tigers flipped a lackluster first half today with a 30-point third quarter and eventually ran away from Thomas University, 83-59, in the second game of the Miami-Doral Hotels Classic.

CU (13-2) went on a 22-6 run to open the second half that changed a three-point halftime lead to a 17-point advantage (55-38) with 2:53 remaining in the third. In that decisive third quarter, the Lady Tigers hit 77 percent (10-of-13) from the floor and buried three triples (3-of-4) on the run.

The lead swelled to 29 in the fourth quarter (78-49) and coach Ginger Colvin was able to use her depth to wear down the Night Hawks (5-7).

The Lady Tigers were led by Emily Fox's 18 points. She was joined in double figures by Jordan Doram and Lexxus Graham with 12 apiece.

CU ended up hitting 52 percent for the game and connected on 6-of-15 from the 3-point line. CU out-rebounded Thomas 44-24, led by Abby Miller's nine boards. Miller also had four assists and two of the team's 13 steals. Lauren Turner and Madison Clements had three steals apiece.

Campbellsville committed 11 first-half turnovers and never found a rhythm, eventually using a couple of buckets by Doram to milk a 33-30 halftime lead. Doram led CU at the break with 10 points.

Madison Faulkner tied a career mark for her with five first-half rebounds. She ended the game with six rebounds.

The Lady Tigers played from behind until finally taking an 18-14 lead early in the second quarter after an Fox 3 and a bucket by Doram. But Thomas would find a way and a 3 by Kriza Allen gave the Night Hawks a 23-18 lead with six minutes to go in the half.

Graham hit a driving layup and Caitlin Hall drained a 3 to put CU up 27-23 and the Lady Tigers were able to maintain a lead the rest of the way. Hall knocked down a pair of 3s and hit a runner in the lane for a new career-high of eight points, while Graham scored 10 second-half points.

Campbellsville hit 42 percent of its shots in the first half, but would have hit 60 if it had hit half its point-blank attempts

The Lady Tigers turn around and play Johnson and Wales tomorrow at 1:00 for the final game of a three-game run in the Miami area. There will be video provided by Johnson Wales staff, but no audio. Link can be found on www.campbellsvilletigers.com.
