Stephen Zink named AVCA/NCCAA Assistant Coach of the Year

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — First-year women's volleyball assistant, Stephen Zink, has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Assistant Coach of the Year.

"Stephen recently took the CU Lady Tigers to the NCCAA National Tournament due to my inability to travel and made it to the finals," said CU women's volleyball head coach Amy Zink, who is also his wife. "CU is lucky to have a hardworking and caring coach. He is truly deserving of this award."

Zink was the recent recipient of the 5th Region Coach of the Year honor for his work with Taylor County High School, where he also teaches, and has been head coach for the past six years. His Lady Cardinals finished this past season 34-4 overall, 18-1 in the Region, and 8-0 in the District.

Zink, originally from Louisville, Ky., attended St. Xavier High School and is a graduate of Campbellsville University.

In 2010, the Lady Cardinals went 10-16, and in 2011, his first season, TCHS went 11-21.

Since then the Lady Cardinals have been trending in the right direction, with a breakout season in 2015 of 29-6 and then his most successful campaign of 34-4 in 2016.

He is co-founder of the local volleyball club — Central Kentucky Volleyball Academy — which began last winter.  The club played in a total of 10 tournaments, and finished in first place in three, and was runner-up in four.

He also helped start the Amazing Aces Volleyball League for the youth in Taylor County in the spring of 2016.

He volunteered in the spring of 2016 with the Campbellsville University Lady Tiger Volleyball program and joined them this fall as a part-time assistant.
