CU is third, while six Lady Tigers still have title hopes alive

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Campbellsville is tied for third in the WCWA National Championship and six Lady Tigers head into the semifinals when competition resumes Saturday morning at Oklahoma City University. 

DAY 1 RESULTS

Eight Lady Tigers have a chance to be named WCWA All-American. Of those eight, six still have their national title hopes alive — Rosemary Flores (130), Shelby Hall (130), Kayla Miracle (136), Michelle Organ (155), Hanna Hall (170) and Tiaira Scott (191). Koral Sugiyama (130) and Hannah Gladden (143) were the other Lady Tigers that have a chance to be named WCWA All-American. 

Campbellsville finished the day tied for third with Simon Fraser University at 103.5 points. Two-time reigning national champion — King University — leads the tournament with 136.5 points, as Oklahoma City University trails with 113 points. Lindenwood University rounds out the Top 5 with 85.5 points.

The six Lady Tigers that head into the semifinals tomorrow also lead Campbellsville with double-digit scoring. Rosemary Flores leads the way with 16 team points as she recorded three straight pins on Day 1. Moving into the quarterfinals, Flores won a 4-2 decision over Erika Mihalca of Missouri Baptist.

No. 1 Kayla Miracle at 130-pounds has 15 team points, as she received a bye in the first round and followed that up with a tech fall and a pin. Heading into the quarterfinals, Miracle won by tech fall over Cassandra Herkeman of McKendree University.

Michelle Organ, No. 3 at 155-pounds, and Hanna Hall, who has bumped up to 170-pounds this week, each have 12.50 team points apiece. Organ won by tech fall and pin before winning a decision in the quarterfinals over No. 5 Mary Westman of Jamestown University. Hall won by tech fall and pin as well in her first two matches. In the quarterfinals she won by decision over No. 7 Courteney Tompkins of University of the Cumberlands.

No. 2 Tiaira Scott scored 12 team points with two tech falls of the night. Scott received a bye in her first round and picked up win over No. 9 Monica Mason from Oklahoma City University in the quarterfinals.

Fifth-ranked Shelby Hall also received bye in her first round, recording 11.5 team points. Hall followed her bye with a tech fall and a decision before heading to the quarterfinals, where she met teammate, No. 6 Koral Sugiyama, and won by decision.  

On top of being tied for third at the WCWA National Championship, the Lady Tigers were named a WCWA Scholar-Team with the highest team grade point average at 3.53. Five individuals were named WCWA Scholar-Athletes, including, Hanna Hall, Kait Fitzpatrick, Kasey Kruczek, Kayla Miracle and Michelle Organ.
