MARIETTA, Ga. — Sekou Harris scored 25 points and hit pivotal free throws down the stretch to seal Campbellsville's No. 4 seed in the upcoming Mid-South Conference tournament with a 102-99 win today over Life University.
The Tigers (21-9, 8-8 MSC) finish the regular season on a three-game win streak and have now gone over the century mark five times this year – winning all five.
Harris led all scorers with 25 points, hitting 6-of-12 overall and 3-of-4 from behind the 3-point line. He was followed be fellow seniors Dii'jon Allen-Jordan and Rob Robinson who both pitched in 22. Robinson was the killer, hitting 4-of-6 from 3. He and Allen-Jordan also led CU with eight rebounds.
Campbellsville and Life (17-12, 7-9 MSC) sprinted out of the gates at a pace of play that did not slow until the final buzzer sounded. The Tigers and Running Eagles combined for 139 total shots and knocked down 77 (55.4 percent).
Life led 22-21 with 10:16 to play in the first half, but that was the last lead the Running Eagles saw the rest of the game. Campbellsville went on a 28-12 run and took its largest lead of 15 points, 49-34. Life cut the deficit to 12 with 2:33 to play but neither team scored again in the first half.
Robinson drilled all of his 3s — finishing 4-of-5 and scoring 16 points – in the opening half.
In the second half, it was another big run but not in favor of Campbellsville. The Tigers went up by 14 points, 79-65 after Harris drilled a trifecta. The lead stayed in double figures but Life cut the deficit to 10 points, 91-81 with 5:43 left.
The Running Eagles then went on a 10-0 run and tied the game at 91, as the Tigers missed three shots and turned the ball over three times in a span of four minutes. CU finished with 12 turnovers and Life scored 23 points off those mistakes.
Coming out of a timeout, Allen-Jordan gave CU the lead for good, 93-91, with 1:40 left and started a quick 6-0 Tiger run. Darryl Thomas drained a 3 for Life to cut the lead to three, 97-94 but Campbellsville sealed the victory at the charity stripe. Led by Harris, CU hit 9-of-10 from the free throw line in the final two minutes. Campbellsville hit just 3-of-9 from the stripe in the first half but upped that average by hitting 17-of-20 in the second half.Â
In addition to the big three, Hagen Tyler scored 15 points and Ron Scott pitched in 12 points. Scott led CU with seven assists.
Allen Dantzler led Life with 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting.
With the win, Campbellsville earns the four-seed in the upcoming MSC tournament. The Tigers will play five-seed Shawnee State in the nightcap at approximately 8:30 p.m. ET on Friday, March 4.Â
