Ramirez nearly hits for cycle in 10-4 win over #13 AUM

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — It took three games but the sticks woke up at the plate for Tiger baseball this weekend and Campbellsville knocked off No. 13 Auburn Montgomery University, 10-4.

Box Score

No. 19 Campbellsville (7-4) scored six runs in the first inning – all unearned – and took advantage of three AUM errors to seal their seventh win of the season.

Richard Ramirez had a nice day at the plate, going 3-for-4 only needing a triple for the cycle. Ramirez finished with a single, double, homerun and three RBI.

Cameron Ketchen and Alex Echevarria each added two of the remaining eight hits. The Tigers also took advantage of six AUM walks with five of them coming around to score.

The Tigers sent 10 batters to the plate in the first, as AUM's Kade Suther (2-1) fell victim to a leadoff error that opened the flood gates. Casey Scott advanced to second base after a sac bunt by Romello Carbbucia and Cody Erickson delivered an RBI single to put CU ahead, 1-0.

After the second out was recorded, Ketchen pushed across Erickson with an RBI doubled down the left field line. Brett Hamilton singled to put runners on first and third, but Nestor Linares was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. The big blow came from the next two hitters – Echevarria pushed across two runs with a two RBI single and Ramirez doubled to score two more.

Auburn Montgomery (11-5) answered with a single run in the third inning off CU starter Nick Przybylek (2-0). Houston Davenport singled and came around to score on Dalton Kelley's single to shallow center field.

The Tigers added single runs in the fourth, sixth and seven innings. Ramirez hit his first homerun of the season on a 1-1 count to push CU's lead to 7-1 in the fourth. In the sixth, Linares walked to lead off but advanced all the way to third base on two wild pitches by reliever David Carter. Linares was allowed to score after an errant throw by Carter. In the seventh, another lead off walk haunted the Warhawks. Riley Joyce was replaced by Jacob Carrera for a courtesy runner and Carrera came around to score after another error by AUM.

The Warhawks were able to scratch three runs in the seventh, though. Przybylek allowed consecutive singles and a CU error loaded the bases without anyone out. Mac Seibert reached on a walk to score Kaleb Harris and coach Beauford Sanders went to submarine pitcher Casey Congleton.

After a strikeout, Congleton allowed two singles to score the final AUM runs. Przybylek finished throwing six-plus innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs. He also walked three and struck out three. Congleton pitched one inning and Jake Pannunzio pitched the eighth and ninth to seal the win for CU.

Campbellsville was able to add an insurance run in the eighth. It all started again with a leadoff walk to Scott and he came around to score on an RBI single by Joyce.

The Tigers return home for nine-straight games starting with Culver Stockton College on Thursday, March 3 at 2 p.m. ET. CU then hosts Taylor University and Judson College on Saturday and Sunday, March 5-6. Every game will have live stats available.
