Tiger baseball earns split with St. Catharine on Friday

SPRINGFIELD, Ky. — It took 28 innings but Campbellsville baseball and St. Catharine College split a Mid-South Conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon.

The Tigers rallied in the 11th inning in game one, winning 4-0, but the Patriots turned the tides with a 4-3 victory in game two.

Game one – Campbellsville 4, St. Catharine 0 

It took 11 innings for game one of the series to decide a winner but the Tigers rallied with four of their seven hits in the final frame.

Nestor Linares started the rally with a double and was moved all the way to third base after a sac bunt fielders choice by Miguel SolanoCameron Ketchen walked to load the bases then Cody Erickson delivered the big blow with a two RBI single to left field.

After Ketchen scampered around to third base on the single by Erickson, Casey Scott pulled the string with a beautiful squeeze bunt to score CU's third run.

St. Catharine went to its bullpen but Austin Willis-Greene allowed an RBI single by Richard Ramirez scoring Erickson and putting Campbellsville ahead 4-0.

Jake Pannunzio (1-0), who came in to relieve Nick Przybylek in the ninth inning with one out, picked up the win throwing 2 2/3 innings and allowed just one hit and struck out four batters.

Przybylek (4-1) shutdown St. Catharine with a two-hitter through 8 1/3 innings. He struck out six batters in the 100-pitch performance.

Scott had two hits, while Erickson's two RBI also led the Tigers.

Daniel Lerma pitched all nine innings, allowing four hits and striking out two for the Patriots. Jake McCoy (0-2), who picked up his second loss, pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs in CU's four-run 11th

Game two – St. Catharine 4, Campbellsville 3 

St. Catharine scored singles runs in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings, but the Tigers had a rally fall just short in the seventh.

Trailing 4-1, the Tigers brought seven batters to the plate, scoring two runs. Riley Joyce reached base on an error, but CU started to merry-go-round after a pop out and strikeout.

Linares reached on a walk to put runners on first and second, then Miguel Solano singled up the middle to load the bases. Ketchen gave the Tigers hope with a two RBI single to left field but Erickson flied out to center to end the threat.

Ketchen led the Tigers going 2-for-4 in the second game. Solano, Casey ScottRichard Ramirez and Diego Reynoso picked up the other hits for CU.

Mario Morales (4-2) went five innings, allowing nine hits and two earned runs. The two unearned runs came around to score in the second and fourth innings.

Joan Pena (5-1) picked up the win, throwing 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on five hits. He also struck out five Tigers. Jake McCoy picked up his fourth save, throwing the final 1/3 of an inning.

The Tigers and Patriots will meet again on the diamond on Saturday with a nine-inning game but first pitch has yet to be announced. Stay tuned to @CvilleTigers for up-to-date information.
