Przybylek shines as baseball runs past Georgetown, 8-0

GEORGETOWN, Ky. — Nick Przybylek pitched eight shutout innings and Campbellsville took advantage of eight Georgetown free passes, running past its rival, 8-0.

Przybylek (4-1), the reigning Mid-South Conference Pitcher of the Week, shutdown Georgetown allowing just five hits and striking out six batters in his eight innings of work. Casey Congleton relieved Przybylek in the ninth inning, allowing a hit but getting a line drive double play to end the game.

Campbellsville (18-9) scored four of its eight runs with a little help from Georgetown (18-15) starting pitcher Joe Fernandez. With two outs in the fourth, Mike Castellano started the CU rally with a single and was followed with four free passes – three walks and a hit-by-pitch – scoring two runs.

The same relief came in the sixth inning. After a leadoff strikeout, Jarrod Ball was hit by a pitch but was followed with a fly out to left field by Nestor Linares. With one out and a runner on first, Casey Scott singled but was followed by another Fernandez walk and hit-by-pitch to plate a run.

Coach Micah Baumfeld went to Roman Davalos out of the pen ending Fernendez' day after just 5 2/3 innings pitched. Then the flood gates opened. Riley Joyce delivered a two-out two-RBI single off a 3-2 fastball and Richard Ramirez launched a two RBI double to deep left-center field plating two more runs. Ramirez eventually came around to score on an error by Georgetown's Chaz Meadows putting CU ahead, 8-0.

Joyce led Campbellsville going 3-for-5 with his two RBI. Ramirez followed suit going 2-for-5 with two RBI as well. Scott, Castellano and Cameron Ketchen both picked up hits and an RBI in the win.

Fernandez (4-2) was brilliant at times but his consistency on the mound hurt him today. He allowed just five Campbellsville hits and struck out nine but allowed five walks and three hit-by-pitches.

Davalos allowed three hits and two runs (one earned) in 2 1/3 innings before giving way to freshman Brandon Calia for the final inning.

Campbellsville and Georgetown will meet again for the final two games of the series tomorrow at 12 p.m. ET at Robert N. Wilson Field. Fans can watch/listen to the game live on the CU Sports Network – http://portal.stretchinternet.com/camp/.
