CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Tiger baseball allowed just two runs for Judson University and swept the doubleheader at HIG Field on Saturday afternoon, 4-1 and 2-1.
Nick Przybylek (3-0) and
Nelson Quark (3-2) picked up wins on the mound for the Campbellsville (10-5). Campbellsville and Judson will meet once again for one game on Tuesday, March 8 at 2 p.m. ET. The Tigers will then host University of the Cumberlands for the first Mid-South Conference series on Friday and Saturday, March 11-12.
Game one: Campbellsville 4, Judson 1
Nick Przybylek pitched his third-straight gem for the Tigers, allowing six hits and one earned run. He also struck out three batters.
Campbellsville used a balance offensive attack, with five players recording hits and
Alex Echevarria going 2-for-2.
The Tigers used a pair of two-run innings in the third and fifth to scratch across four runs. After two quick outs, Campbellsville followed with four-straight hits. Echevarria delivered a double to center field,
Jacob Carrera singled off a drag bunt and was followed by RBI singles by
Casey Scott and
Cody Erickson.
A leadoff double by Josh Krueger came around to cut the Tiger lead in half in the top of the fifth inning. After a sac bunt moved Kruger to third, Tyler Behrendt delivered an RBI single for the lone Judson run.
Campbellsville answered in the fifth and pushed its lead to three, 4-1.
Richard Ramirez and Echevarria both singled to lead off the bottom half of the fifth and were advanced via a sac bunt by Carrera. Scott drove in his second run with a sac fly to right field to score pinch runner
Jarrod Ball from third.
The Tigers then took advantage of the lone Judson error in game one. Erickson grounded to Tanner Kehrer at shortstop but his wild throw allowed Echevarria to score from second.
Przybylek pitched a 1-2-3 sixth and gave way to closer
Jake Pannunzio. He allowed two singles but worked out of the jam for the save.
Game two: Campbellsville 2, Judson 1
The Tigers put together five hits – all from five different guys - and scored two runs to seal game two of the doubleheader.
Campbellsville used single runs in the third and fourth innings with both rallies starting via free passes (hit-by-pitch and walk).
Romello Carbuccia was hit by a pitch with one out in the third inning and advanced to third after Carrera and Scott both singled to load the bases. Carbuccia ended up scoring off an RBI groundout by Erickson.
In the fourth, Echevarria reached on a two-out walk and
Richard Ramirez doubled to right field to score what ended up being the game-winning run.
Quark started the game and threw three innings, allowing four hits and no runs. He gave way to
Justin Phillips, who pitched three frames and faced one above the minimum.
In the seventh, coach
Beauford Sanders went to Pannunzio out of the bullpen once again and Judson made things a little interesting.
Troy Vandenbroek singled with one out and pinch runner Tanner Kehrer advanced to second on a passed ball by CU's
Riley Joyce. Pannunzio struck out Behrendt for the first out then allowed an RBI single to Luke Rojas to bring the game-winning run to the plate. But Mark DeYoung flied out to left field to end the Judson threat and seal the CU sweep.
